Medical Support

Roopak Mudili
Roopak(28) has always been known among his family and friends as the smart one with full of potential and dreams. His academic track record proves his intelligence and countless hours of hard work. But, unfortunately, Roopak met with a near fatal accident in Tampa about 6 weeks ago while returning to his home. He was taken to the ER at St. Joseph's hospital in Tampa and survived the accident with severe traumatic brain injury and major injuries to his legs and face. This accident has rendered him unconscious since the time of the accident. He has been breathing off of ventilator since then. The accident broke his right jaw, chin bone and crushed the sinus areas into the face. He has suffered severe brain-shearing injury which severed the sensitive nerve connections in his brain due to oxygen deficit and brain swelling when the accident occurred. He has already gone through multiple hours of surgeries on his legs and face pending nose surgery as nose fluids are gushing out.

Roopak comes from a lower middle class family from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. His father passed away in 2001. Being a widow, his mother raised Roopak and his elder brother with much hard work. He completed his bachelors at VR Siddhartha Engineering College (Vijayawada) and he came to the US in 2014 to pursue his master’s in computer science engineer. (University of North Carolina, Charlotte) and to provide a better life for his family. After his Masters, he started working on OPT (Optional Practical Training) as a Software Engineer in Tampa, Florida for the past one year.

Roopak had been in the ICU for 3 weeks following the accident. He was moved to PCU (Progressive Care Unit) about 2 weeks ago. He is showing signs of improvement and has filled his family and friends with fresh hope. His breathing patterns have improved and fractures are slowly healing. But, the real problem Roopak is facing currently is Defused Axonal brain injury, which needs long-term treatment. Once he regains consciousness he will be shifted to a brain rehabilitation facility. All of this requires extensive financial undertaking which neither he nor his family is able to bear. We request everybody on Roopak's behalf to contribute every little bit to help him to heal completely and give him a fresh lease on life.

Currently, due to financial constraints his brother has traveled from India to attend to Roopak's care. His mother's care is very much important for his healing. The money acquired through this fund-raising will be used for pending surgeries, rehabilitation and support of family while they are here taking care of Roopak and also to bring his mother to the US to care for him. Even after his insurance coverage, the estimates for his treatment and rehab program are exorbitant amounts out of pocket expense which is only possible to meet through group effort.

The road to his recovery has just begun and he has a long way to go. Please keep Roopak in your thoughts and prayers, as it will be wonderful for him to FEEL the prayers healing his body.

Thanking you all in advance.
